Start smaller than a character.
A finished mascot already tells a story about who it is. Phings begins earlier: a tiny organism with a simple body and room to change. The name comes from ‘things’ said with a lisp. The design question is how little personality a form needs to invite attention without assigning it a scripted life.
Related, not identical.
A shared blob body, minimal eyes and small underside nubs hold the family together. Cream, moss and clay vary the reading without creating an elaborate cast. These are related visual possibilities, not three established species.

Make observation the main interaction.
The environment takes most of the screen. A small field-notes panel adds context without turning the organism into a collection of stats. Switch between the world and lifeform studies, then select a habitat to see how the interface frames different questions. Nothing here simulates life; it demonstrates the observation model.
Clearing / concept landscapeThree choices that keep the world quiet.
World before controls
The landscape remains the main surface. A small number of contextual controls prevents the view becoming a management dashboard.
Notes before scores
Descriptions encourage comparison without presenting speculative behaviour as a measured intelligence score.
Conditions, not commands
The intended interaction changes the environment. It does not tell individual organisms where to go or what to become.
Curiosity needs a readable change.
A future prototype would need to show enough cause and effect for observation to feel worthwhile. That means testing a very small world with a few visible conditions first. Phings explores the character and interface layer; Pangea documents the wider world premise. Neither claims a working artificial-life system.
